How do you represent that which has been drained of meaning, misrepresented to the point of oversaturation, yet underappreciated and neglected to the point of absurdity? Time stretches eternally, oppressing your daily life to the smallest and largest degree, in humiliating detail, regular check points, opening boxes, behavior engulfed by silence. Masharawi succeeds brilliantly in silently depicting the daily abuses of life under occupation, the regulation and control superimposed, and the suffocating repression enacted and enforced by the Israeli military presence in Palestine.
