Burkina Faso
Bakary Sanon was born in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso in 1972. After earning a degree in medicine, he worked as a journalist during Thomas Sankara?s presidency, and then as assistant director in various short-films. He co-directed several documentaries before making his first documentary /Marche// ou crève/ in 2004, followed by /Le Naufrage Negro-Liberal/ in 2006, /Ouagadougou//, naissance d'une ville/ in 2010 and /Les Esprits meurent aussi/ in 2012. He is the founder of Ecrans, an association for the dissemination and distribution of independent African films.
