Presentation and premiere of the latest film by Pierre-Yves Vandeweerd:

Inner Lines, 2022, Belgium – France, 88’, 16mm and 8mm, VOSE

In military jargon, the Inner Lines are escape routes that are close to enemy lines, bypass the means of control and make evasions possible.

Around Mount Ararat, in Turkey and in Armenia, messengers and their courier pigeons move along these parallel trials to encounter war-torn communities.

In the course of their journey, they meet Yazidis who have fled the atrocities of Daesh and have taken refuge in Turkish transit camps. They stop along the last survivors of the Armenian genocide. They go to war-torn Nagorno-Karabakh to accompany families in mourning.Throughout the account, men and women bear witness to what they have endured, to their ravaged. existences, to life struggling against death. Their words speak mainly of the violence inflicted by men on other men, a violence that seems to be eternal.

Screening courtesy of the filmmaker and French Kiss Production.

Shot mostly on 16 mm and super 8 mm film, his documentaries, using a poetic cinematic gesture, bring together forgotten wars and destinies, the limits of reason and the human condition. They resonate as many other incursions on the edges of reality.
