Pierre-Yves Vandeweerd is a Belgian filmmaker. His films are part of the cinéma du réel and have been shot in several regions of the world: in Mauritania (Némadis, des années sans nouvelles / Racines lointaines / Le cercle des noyés), in Western Sahara (Les dormants / Territoire perdu), in the Sudan (Closed district), in France in the Lozère mountains (Les tourmentes), in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (Les éternels).
In his latest film Inner Lines, Pierre-Yves Vandeweerd pursues a powerful political and poetic work. Shot in 16 mm, it covers the territories around Ararat along the "inner lines", according to military terminology.
Filmed for the most part in 16 and super 8 mm film, his documentaries bring together, through a poetic cinematographic gesture, wars and forgotten destinies, the limits of reason, the human condition. They resonate like so many incursions into the confines of reality.
